Photos from a party thrown in
August, 2002.
Some old photos
So far I just have a few things I found in my desk to scan and a couple
pictures I stole off of other web sites or friends e-mailed me here.
Someday, I'll (probably) actually go find some nice pictures at home
to post and make this page real.
These are almost in time order starting from the newest.

An old picture of myself I found while cleaning out my desk.
I'm not sure, but I think it is from around mid-2001, taken at one of
those photo booths that makes passport photos. The apparent horrible quality
of the image you see is a good scan of a dirty print.
(This one is out of order.) A recent group photo of some of the
members of our research group.
Left to right:
Dan Kerr, Chiaki Yanagisawa, Clark McGrew, Matthew Malek,
[me], Tokufumi "fumi" Kato, and Chang Kee Jung (the boss).
A barbecue party that some of my wife's friends arranged in a local
park in summer of 2001. Left is me and my wife Mika;
center is us with a few of her friends,
and right (or bottom depending on how wide your browser window is)
is me with her friend's daughter, Luri.

My sister's dog, Ellie Mae. (Did I spell her name right?)

This is my (Japanese) `gondola driver license' which means I am
qualified to use a window washing gondola in Japan. We actually used
the same devices in constructing our work and the same licensing laws
apply.

This polaroid of me caught by surprise in the hallway of the lab
in Kamioka has been in with a hundred others on the wall there
since about 1996. There are large lists of photographs of our
whole collaboration with mirrors in
the US and in
Japan.

This group photo taken around October, 1995 is those of us who were
there in Japan at the time working on the big detector for our research.
In this picture, it is not completely constructed yet; we are standing
in the bottom of it. A few months later it was filled with ultra-pure
water and sealed up so that no light can get in.
I'm in the photo, but you might have trouble finding me.
The only hint I will give is that it really is hard to find me.

A crew of us at the Atotsu entrance of the Kamioka Mining & Smelting
company's Mozumi mine. (early 1996) Left to right are:
- Butch Judds, a technician from UC Irvine
- me. I don't really like having my picture taken, so when possible
I do things like leave my mine helmet on and look down.
- Mark Messier, then a Ph.D. student at Boston University
(now a post-doc at Harvard).
- Todd Haines, a research scientist at Los Alamos National Lab
- Bill Kropp, a (now semi-retired) research proffessor from UC Irvine
- Cesar ??? (Sorry, but I just can't remember his last name) another
Irvine technician.

This other old picture of myself was actually taken with a digital camera
attached to a computer back when that was a slightly big deal (around 1995).
It looks like I am wearing the same shirt as the 5 year newer picture
above. That's actually just a coincidence.
You can really see my old handlebar moustache here. Ah, the good old days....

This is me and my old friend Tom Reid at our other old friend
Mark Lifite's wedding. I'm stuffing my face with something and Tom
is trying to look like he thinks he's above that.
I should remember, but that must be around 1990. I still had my serious
moustache then.
